Smartphone technology not only provides real-time weather and radar information and all forms of entertainment, it is increasingly seen as a productivity tool.

According to this LAMEA market study, smartphones can be used in conjunction with sensors, high-resolution cameras, and GPS receivers, to aid in sample collection, aerial photography, and record-keeping.

Smartphones, this report says, can also address the “growing need for climate information services, which helps farmers manage climate change and unpredictability by allowing them to make better agricultural decisions. In addition, the increased demand for cloud platforms for climate services is driving the precision farming market.”
